Frequently Asked Questions
How will I know if my insurance is accepted?
When you call to schedule an appointment with Jim, he may know about your insurance, but you are welcome to contact your insurance company ahead of time to verify coverage. If Jim is not contracted with your insurance company, let us know and we will apply to be covered by them, although this is not a guarantee of coverage. Be sure to ask about preauthorization, deductibles and co-pays, and any limits you might have. Please view our Insurance page for more assistance in making the call to your provider.
I can’t (or don’t want to) use my insurance; can I pay out of pocket?
Money is tight right now. Are you flexible?
Yes. There is some flexibility with the charges, and we can work out a payment plan. Talk to your clinician about the options.
Do you accept credit or debit cards?
Yes. We can accept VISA, MasterCard and Discover.
What is the process to make an appointment?
Call us at 608-406-2624 or send an email via our contact page. We are available to talk with you briefly about your needs and schedule an assessment appointment with you.
How long will I have to wait for an appointment?
Often you will be able to schedule an appointment within a week of your call, however you may have to wait a little longer for an evening appointment.
How long does a typical session last?
A typical session is 50 minutes, but may last between 45 and 60 minutes.
Will you share with me what my teen is saying?
We will invite you into your teen’s session to hear from your teen about anything that is dangerous or highly concerning. We want to build their relationship with you while providing a safe place for them to share about their lives and concerns.
What if my spouse won’t come for marriage counseling?
We encourage you to come on your own. Frequently, once you do your spouse will want to join you, but even if they don’t we can coach you in ways to improve your relationship without his or her participation in counseling.
Confidentially:
Everything that you share is confidential. We never discuss one client with another. We cannot confirm or deny someone is a client unless we have a written release of information.
Will you testify in court on my behalf?
No. Our expertise is counseling. We are willing to write a letter listing your dates of service and summarizing your therapy goals if requested but there is an additional charge for this service.
