Hope Renewed Counseling Services is lead by James A. Thompson, MS, LPC, CSAC, who holds a Master Degree in Guidance and Counseling from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. He is a Licensed Professional Counselor specializing in personal one on one counseling, couples counseling as well as group counseling. Jim is also a Clinical Substance Abuse Counselor licensed with the state of Wisconsin specializing in all types of addictions. He assists individuals and groups to better understand relationships, thoughts and emotions, and problematic behaviors. Jim presents a caring approach through counseling therapy that helps clients find a balanced and healthy understanding of what they are experiencing and how to approach the problem. Jim currently serves Madison and the greater Dane County area.

Jim has many years of experience in the counseling field having worked in different areas of counseling through the years but has special interest in trauma issues (including PTSD), addictions, relationship struggles, spiritual formation, mental health therapy and helping men and women find their healing, growth and recovery. Jim understands their experience and suffering as a “sacred trust”. He also enjoys facilitating small groups. Jim’s exciting newest interest is in the cutting edge trauma therapy technique known as Brainspotting.

Jim has prior counseling experience at Living Well Counseling Services, Connections Counseling, Madison Psychotherapy Center, and Lutheran Social Services, all as a private practice therapist and at Tellurian Residential Center as a Primary Counselor.
